The Island, Tintagel, North Cornwall

The Island, Tintagel

The home of Tintagel Castle;  associated with the legend of King Arthur... although there is no evidence he's ever actually been here!

Peeking

53/365

Blue Tit waiting for his turn on the feeders.

Peeking

The rambling rose is a good perch, and with the leaves growing now it offers a bit of cover too.

Primrose Bokeh

52/365

These primroses are growing out of the river banks. The 'bokeh' effect is caused by sunlight on the water...

Primrose Bokeh

Bokeh definition
Bokeh is the blur (or the aesthetic quality of the blur) in out-of-focus areas of an image, or "the way the lens.renders out-of-focus points of light" More info here.

Inquisitive

46/365

He'd been on the bird feeder stealing all the peanuts...

Inquisitive

When he saw me he ran off, circled round behind the wood shed and popped up to see if I was still there.  And there I was!

Daffodils

41/365

Poor daffs, one minute the sun is shining and they are beaming upwards, the next they are flattened by frost with heads bowed.

Daffodils

They still struggle on!

12th March 2013

Small

40/365

River side Wren.

Small

If only they would stay still long enough to get a decent shot!     I think this particular subject could be another for the 'when I've a bit more time' pile.   Work has been busy, work on the house has been busy and as such my grand plans for stretching photographic horizons in this 365 project seem to have slipped a bit.  Time pressures are what they are for now so finding new daily subjects is enough of a challenge for now!

Monday 11 March 2013

11th March 2013

Hopeful

39/365

Spirea leaf shoots.

Hopeful

Given the bitterly cold of today after recent milder weather, these tender young leaves could be in for a rough ride!

Inviting

37/365

Inviting path into Whalesborough Wood from Bude Canal.  North Cornwall.

Inviting

One of our favourite walks is from Widemouth Bay, along the Bude Canal to Bude, then back over the cliff path to Widemouth.  This little path is off the canal heading into Whalesborough Wood and  an area of permissive paths and trails.  We've never explored the trails, usually sticking to the canal path but maybe next time...

Rather Ragged

36/365

A rather bedraggled looking Small Tortoiseshell butterfly spotted while walking the dogs today.

 Rather Ragged

Technically a pretty rubbish shot of a fairly motheaten subject but it wasn't hanging about so I took my chances!  And as it's the first butterfly spotted of the year...  I'll make my excuses!

It's been beautifully warm here today when the sun made an appearance, perhaps the last few days of milder temperatures have tempted this one from hibernation.  It may well change it's mind next week as we have snow forecast for early next week.

Late in the Day

35/365

Having found myself very short of time today, it was a grabbed shot of a primrose just outside the front door in failing light for todays picture.

31/365

Semaphore ears.

"J"

Murphy demonstrates his semaphore skills. Apparently this particular arrangement of ears indicates the letter "J".

2nd March 2013

Ripples

30/365

Ripple circles, Crowdy Reservoir.

2nd March 2013.

We walk the dogs on Davidstow Moor most weekends, often close by the reservoir. It's usually blowing a hooley but today it was almost still; as such the water was almost inviting! A plop of a thrown stone caused the circle. I had been aiming for some sort of landscape shot incorporating the shoreline and Rough Tor in the background but I got distracted by the ripples and didn't quite end up with the picture I'd had in mind! One for another day though.
